Entertainment these days is hard to come by. Sure, there’s Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max. For anime lovers (like myself), there’s Crunchyroll, Vrv, and other “legal” streaming sites. But, when you are stuck at home due to Government restrictions, what else is there to do? When you’ve run out of shows to binge-watch and gamers on Youtube to stream, it can be hard to find anything towards having fun. Here is a quirky list of five things compiled that will give you an idea of how to get yourself out of the covid, couch potato rut.

1.    Youtube
You know that saying, “there’s no time like the present?” Well, why not make use of this time and make a Youtube channel? There is all sorts of advice on how to construct one. Try searching various creators, or head over to the illustriousYoutuber Academy, a platform on youtube designed to teach people ways to build a channel. From financing, editing, to branding, it pretty much guaranteed not to lead you astray. People have credited starting a channel as one of the best ways to “get out of the house” so to speak, and have another outlet that can be life-changing.

2.   Exercise
It’s been known for centuries that exercise is the key to living a long and healthy life. Or, was it good food? Paired with some healthy foods, and eaten in moderation, exercising has many benefits. For one, you’ll look amazing (more amazing than you already do) as you become more toned and build muscle, but your heart will thank you. Exercising promotes good heart health and will better help you against diseases, cancers, and overall stress. Yoga, strength, and cardio training are all good ways to start. The best part is that all of this can be done at home with regimens to follow. So, grab a can, or use those weights you’ve been dying to have the time to use. I believe in you!

3.   Writing
Reading is fundamental. So, is writing. Writing is one the most inspirational outlets there is. It’s how you stumbled upon reading this article. Writing can be a way to express how you feel, whether it be for the moment or how you’ve been feeling forever. If you want to write a book, a blog, or a poem to pass the time, there are platforms for that. There are even Open Mic Nights (which can also be done at home now) which are helpful if you want to branch out. Applying for internships are also a big help if you want to add to your resume and skill set. After all, the pen is mightier than the sword.

4.   Gaming
Xbox or Playstation? PC or Switch? D&D or Rock, Paper, Scissors? Whatever you decide, gaming has taken the world by storm, and if you’ve grown up on it, it’s safe to say you are never without something to do after a long day at the office. The world of gaming is simply grand. A world in which you can unwind and enter an existence, filled with characters that have come from our imaginations. There are tons of games that you can buy from Atari, Arcade machines, to games that have come about this year.

5.   Learning a Language
Tired of the English language? How about learning a new way to say wear a mask? Usar Una máscara.( That's "wear a mask", in Spanish). Apps like Duolingo and Rosetta Stone will allow you to learn the basics of various languages in fun ways for free and for premium.

To sum it all up, staying at home can be very rewarding if you let it. There’s a peace of mind one gets from being in their own space. You have more freedom to branch out and let your creativity blossom. This may be the perfect opportunity to try things that you’ve never imagined or felt the courage to do. Sure, being on lockdown can be filled with anxiety, riddled with bad thoughts that desperately try to cling to our minds that simply do not belong. But, just hold on for a bit longer. Perhaps implementing a few of these hobbies or projects might encourage you. Have fun, and stay safe.
