Injustice The Movie: Part 1

Everything You Need to Know Before the Movie Releases.

In the middle of summer, DC announced they were making an injustice film. The film will release on Oct 19. 2021. For those not in the know about the Injustice verse, this article is here to tell you everything you need to know.

What is Injustice About?

The world of injustice is set on Earth-One. In this world, Superman has gone mad after Joker tricks him into killing Lois Lane and their unborn child. On top of this tragedy, Joker attached a trigger to an atomic bomb to Lois’s heart, which detonated the minute her heart stopped destroying Metropolis.

In Superman’s grief, he makes the world a police state which executes criminals on the spot. Of course, Batman is against the killing of criminals since his one rule is no killing. It also doesn’t help that Wonder Woman completely sides with Super Man and supports him in his quest to kill criminals.

The turning point for Batman is when his own son Damien Wayne (AKA the current Robin), sides with Superman’s team and assists them in executing criminals from Arkham. Batman is furious with his son, but that isn’t why he disowns him. What changes Batman forever, is when Damien kills Nightwing (AKA Richard Grayson).

The death of Dick Grayson snaps something in Batman, and he even says that he’s an orphan again. It’s also the moment that he decides he has to stop Superman, who had that point he’d believed he could snap back to sanity.

I felt my heartbreak for Batman at this moment because Superman had been his first real friend outside of the Bat-family. For anyone who lost a friendship because the person changed into someone you can’t support, then you can feel sympathy for Batman.

Now before anyone yells at me about Superman, of course, I feel sorry for him to in away. He also has the complete right to be angry about the situation, and I supported the execution of those involved in the tragedy.

Where I put my foot down, however, is when he took the law into his own hands and decided to execute every criminal on the spot, despite what their crime was.

Team Superman: The Regime

As most superhero fans know, Marvel had a huge civil war which was between Iron Man and Captain America. In a sense, Injustice is DC’s civil war. If theirs a civil war then that means there are going to be teams. So what heroes are on each team?

To start, let’s look at who sided with Superman.

10. Cyborg

Cyborg (AKA Victor Stone) first appeared in DC present issue twenty-six in October 1980. He was originally a member of the Teen Titans but later joined the Justice League. In a sad twist of fate, this hero turned into a villain and joined Superman.

9. Killer Frost

Killer Frost (AKA Louise Lincoln) was originally a villain of the Justice League; however, once Superman joined the dark side, she joined his team. In other Earth’s her affiliation depends upon the authors, so you never know whether she’s going to be a villain or a hero.

8. Two-Face

Two-Face (AKA Harvey Dent) started out as one of Batman’s nemeses, but to save his life he later joined team Superman. I wonder if he ever wishes he joined Batman?

7. Riddler:

Riddler (AKA Edward Nigma) started out as one of Batman’s original villains, so maybe it’s no surprise he joined Superman to take down the big bad Bat. I’m excited to see Riddler get some spotlight in the upcoming movie since he hasn’t appeared since Jim Carrey’s 1995 portrayal.

6. Cheetah

Cheetah (AKA Barbara Minerva) is best known for being Wonder Woman’s arch-nemesis. She first appeared in Wonder Woman issue six in the Autumn of 1943. That she joined Superman’s Regime is surprising to me, considering she has to work alongside her enemy.

5. Robin

Robin (AKA Damian Wayne) might be the most surprising member on our list. Damian, the son of Batman and Talia al Ghul, was trained from a very young age to be an assassin; however, thanks to his mother dumping him on his father, Damian was taught not to kill. Unfortunately, for Bruce, his son turned from his teachings and reverted to killing criminals when he decided he liked Superman’s plan of turning the world into a police state.

4. Sinestro

Thaal Sinestro (AKA a Yellow Lantern) is an enemy of Green Lantern Hal Jordan. Superman courses him into joining his regime with the promise of power. The aspect of ruling the world as a police state attracts him.

3. Lobo

Lobo has been a long-time fan favorite among DC fans. He was a villain in the Teen Titans spin-off Omega Men and a recurring character in the Green Lantern series. In a surprise twist for creators, Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer, their character became an instant hit, and he now appears in several of DC’s ongoing series. I look forward to seeing if he will join Superman in the upcoming film. When Lobo is not taking over the world, he works as a bounty hunter because an alien has to make a buck.

2. Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman (AKA Diana Prince) was a member of the Justice League. That she joined Superman and even help push him into creating a police state is one of the most surprising plot twists in the Injustice universe. I expected better of you Diana!

1. Lex Luthor

It might surprise several of you to see Lex Luthor’s name on this list, but I assure you it’s true. The good news is he’s secretly helping Batman.

Team Batman: The Insurgency

If you think Superman’s team is impressive, wait until you see who's on Batman’s team.

10. Deathstroke

Deathstroke (AKA Slade Wilson) used to be an enemy of the Titans and is one of the world’s best assassins. My best guess is that he got pissed that Superman caused the death of his enemy Nightwing.

9. Huntress

Huntress (AKA Helena Bertinelli) is a well-known member of the Justice League. She canceled her League membership after Superman turned the world into a police state. She is one of the few members I can confirm from the movie preview who will be in it.

8. Captain Atom

Captain Atom (AKA Nathaniel Adam), like Huntress, was a member of the Justice League. He decided on his own to leave the League after Superman took over. I can also confirm he will be in the film unlike other members of Superman’s team which haven’t been shown yet.

7. Martian Manhunter

Martian Manhunter (AKA J’onn J’onzz) is another former member of the Justice League prior to Superman taking it over. In the Injustice verse, he is listed as a reserve member before Metropolis was destroyed.

6. Dr. Fate

Dr. Fate (AKA Kent Nelson) was a member of the Justice League until Superman went insane. He sided with Batman. I am not one hundred percent positive yet if he will be in the movie as I didn’t see him in the preview, but let’s hope he makes an appearance.

5. Batwoman

Batwoman (AKA Kathy Kane) is Batman’s cousin and a member of the Bat clan. So it comes as no surprise she sided with Batman when Superman took over the world.

4. Hawkman

Hawkman (AKA Katar Hol) was a member of the Justice League, as well as a Thanagarian soldier. He sided with Batman while his wife, Hawkgirl, sided with Superman. Talk about an awkward situation.

3. Nightwing

Nightwing (AKA Richard Grayson) was the leader of the Teen Titans and a member of the Bat clan. His time as a member of the insurgency was short-lived as after Superman’s defection, he was killed in a prison riot that Superman and his regime started.

2. Harley Quinn

It should come as no surprise that Harley joined Batman’s side. Superman killed her boyfriend, after all. I must put in here that she is just as responsible for Lois’s death as Joker since she helped kidnap Lois.

1. Green Arrow

Green Arrow (AKA Oliver Queen) a former member of the Justice League, didn’t even think twice about siding with Batman. Not that he wasn’t sympathetic to Superman’s cause, but because he knew Clark was in grief and needed help. He also doesn’t enjoy ruling the world.

So what's going to happen in the film?

I can’t say for certain whether the movie is going to follow the game or the comics, but I can promise you it’s going to be a wild ride. I also look forward to seeing a crazy Superman.

The movie will release on Oct 19, 2021.

Once I've watched the film, I plan on doing a review, so stay tuned.
