Is Meghan Markle To Blame For All Of The Problems In The Royal Family?

Narcissist. Social climber. MeGain. Golddigger. Those are the words that come  to many people's minds when the name Meghan Markle is mentioned. Due to the controversy surrounding her time in the British Royal Family as a senior member, she is vilified. She is seen as someone who capitalized on her marriage to Prince Harry for fame and monetary gain while pulling him away from his family. However, I believe that Meghan Markle is not the reason for all of the problems in the Royal family. I believe that Meghan Markle is being used as a scapegoat to cover up for the indiscretions of other members of the British Royal Family.

                                    Who is Meghan Markle?

Meghan Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle on August 4th, 1981 to Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle Sr in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Doria Ragland is of African American descent. Her father is White American. Her father was a lighting director. Her mother worked as a makeup artist to those on the set. Her parents divorced when she was six years old. Despite the fact that her parents divorced, her parents had an amicable co-parenting relationship to where they can provide for Meghan's every need. Meghan attended a private Catholic high school and graduated from it in 1999. She attended Northwestern University and graduated with a double major in Theatre and International Relations in 2003. She began her acting career guest-starring in soap operas such as General Hospital, and movies such as Horrible Bosses. She also was a suitcase model on the TV game show, Deal or No Deal in 2007. Despite her connections to Hollywood due to her father's career, she didn't really strike it big. That all changed when she landed a role on Suits as Rachel Zane in 2011. Suits is a Canadian television series that ran from 2011-2017. In the meantime, Meghan worked as a humanitarian by giving money and well wishes to charities. She woke up for women's rights in the UN and made sure that all women were treated fairly and equally. With such an impressive resume, why is she the target of hate and vitriol from the media and those who don't know her?

                                   Her relationship with Prince Harry

In July 2016, Meghan Markle met Prince Harry on a blind date. Immediately, these two took a liking to each other. Despite their different backgrounds and nationalities, the two fell in love with each other. Prince Harry once said that he knew Meghan was the one during their second date. When news of their relationship became public knowledge, Meghan was subjected to a lot of racist and sexist comments online. Buckingham Palace had to release a statement decrying the online abuse that Meghan Markle faced. Throughout their courtship, Meghan and Harry attracted attention and interest throughout American, British, and other media outlets across the world. It was hard to believe that a White, British prince was dating a biracial American divorcee that is an actress. The next year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement. The couple married on May 19th, 2018. The couple welcomed a son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor in May 2019 and a daughter, Lilibeth Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in June 2021.

Despite the bliss that Harry and Meghan deserved to experience, the media abuse of Meghan continued to worsen. She was quoted as having "exotic DNA" and was from "straight outta Compton" by a British tabloid. Her son, Archie was called a chimpanzee by a British journalist. Her daughter, Lilibeth's name was mocked and one suggested that they name their daughter, Georgina Floydina after African American murder victim, George Floyd. Meghan Markle was called, " five clicks from trailer trash" by a journalist on television. Amongst such blatant attacks, Meghan Markle was unfairly compared to her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. Kate was seen as the "good" duchess while Meghan was seen as the "bad" duchess. Meghan dealt with rumors that she was mistreating staff in Kensington Palace, didn't get along with others in the Royal Family, and was steering Prince Harry away from his relatives. In fact, Prince Harry's older brother, Prince William had advised him to take it slow with Meghan. Prince William showed his disdain towards Meghan at the Sandringham Christmas event 2018. William's disdain for her only signified the growing disdain towards Meghan in the UK and across the pond.

Prince Harry and Meghan spoke about their troubles in an ITV documentary that was filmed in South Africa in October 2019. Meghan expressed how she was struggling to cope with the negative press coverage that she was dealing with. That she was also having problems with adjusting to the cultural expectations in Britain and the Royal Family, in general. Her husband, Prince Harry spoke about the trauma he faced after his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales died in a car accident in 1997. He connected the loss of his mother and what she went through with media intrusion to what his wife was dealing with. He was distraught and expressed wanting his wife and child to be in a safer environment where they can thrive. That same year, Meghan and Harry went on vacation to Canada. They felt relieved to be away from such toxicity and hatefulness that they decided to plan their escape route.

In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan announced that they will be stepping down from their duties as senior members of the Royal Family. They wanted to be part-time royals; spending part of their time in Britain and another part of it in Canada. But the Queen rejected that decision. Both Meghan and Harry were no longer working members of the Royal Family. The couple moved to Canada before deciding that they wanted to move to Montecito, California. Since then, the two have been happy and thriving in their mansion in sunny, California weather.

                               Meghan is NOT the problem

Meghan didn't do anything to generate the amount of vitriol and hatred that she received from the press. None of the allegations about her mistreating the staff at the Palace or her making her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton cry at the pre-wedding fittings holds much weight. In their interview with Oprah Winfrey, she and her husband, Prince Harry clarified the many lies and rumors going around about her in the media. She mentioned how it was Kate that actually made her cry not the other way around. Prince Harry and her mentioned how much racism was a factor in them leaving the United Kingdom. However, what Meghan and Harry's distractors refuse to acknowledge is the fact that other members of the Royal Family have had their controversies as well. The tabloid is using Meghan to cover up Prince Harry's uncle, Prince Andrew's sex scandal with Jeffrey Epstein. These people also overlook the fact that Prince Harry's father, Prince Charles is married to the woman, Camilla that he was having an affair with while he was still married to Prince Harry's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Or that there were rumors of Prince Harry's older brother, Prince William cheating on his wife, Kate Middleton with an aristocrat named Rose Hanbury.  Yet people want to pick on Meghan due to the lies and rumors spread about her from the tabloid and media. It isn't right that a young woman is trying to live her life with her husband and young children are being vilified like this.

Ultimately, I believe that Meghan Markle is being scapegoated in the press for all of the wrong reasons. It isn't fair that she is being put down while other people have done worse to get away with it. Meghan Markle is not the problem. Nor is she the instigator in all of the drama surrounding her. If only people knew what she went through while she was in England. Then, one will realize that it is better to thrive in a safe environment instead of in a toxic one. Trust me, Meghan will be vindicated soon.
