Do You Have A Blocked Chakra

Explains how the chakra system helps regulate our well being and how to know if a chakra is blocked

What is a Chakra?

According to Anodea Judith in her groundbreaking book, Wheels of Life; a chakra is a swirling intersection of vital life force that reflects an aspect of consciousness essential to everyone’s life. Every person has seven chakras which, together make up an individual formula that integrates mind, body, and spirit.

Function Of Our Chakra System

Our chakra system is responsible for the makeup of our physical, psychological, and emotional actions.

This complicated network of vortexes of energy provides the information that instructs our body and determines the reactions we all have to the way we perceive and react to the world. Each of the seven chakras is responsible for its own part of the body that makes up the whole complicated human system and within these parts of the body lies a particular physical, psychological and emotional component. To clarify, these spinning wheels or disks denote a point of intersection where body and mind meet. Also called lotuses which symbolize the unfolding of flower petals and is a metaphorical description of a chakra.

Lotus flowers are sacred in India and symbolize a path of development from a primitive being to a fully blossoming consciousness. Just like these flowers chakras can be open or closed; dying or blooming depending on a person’s inner state. The seven chakras line up in a vertical column along our spine and this connects the various dimensions of our energies, so when one dimension isn’t functioning properly; is undeveloped or open or closed, it affects the other chakras accordingly.

In general, the chakras expand from our feeling of security right up to our spirituality, located in our top, or “crown” chakra, and control our thoughts and behaviors involving every other aspect of ourselves which lies within those realms. Many experts in science believe that the first or “root” chakra to be the most important one since if we don’t start with a firm foundation based on safety and security this can affect every other aspect of our personality and emotions.

Furthermore, each chakra is believed to relate to particular organs of the body, ailments, colors, elements, and emotions. Each chakra is supposed to develop at a certain stage of life or a specific age. Our root chakra develops within our mother’s womb up until about one to two years of age while our crown chakra develops throughout our lifetime. The ages of development may vary slightly and can overlap one another. For instance, our knowledge and insight which comes from the sixth chakra also develop over a lifetime.

Chakras are part of the ancient belief system associated with yoga. These traditions were handed down orally for thousands of years before being codified by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras, several centuries before Christ. The ancient healing science of Ayurveda is based on a collection of scriptures known as Vedas (a Sanskrit word meaning knowledge or wisdom).

Ayurveda literally means "life knowledge." It remained the predominant form of health care in India until the British colonial government tried to suppress it during the nineteenth century. Over the last half-century, however, a modernized form of Ayurveda has gained considerable popularity in India. More recently, traditional Ayurveda has been popularized in the West by such high-profile advocates as Deepak Chopra.

Here is a brief description of the seven chakras and their qualities and relation to your health:

What happens if your body chakras are blocked?

Since having your chakras in perfect balance will lead to an optimal state of health often an ailment or psychological or emotional stress can mean that one or more chakras may be unbalanced or blocked preventing the free flow of vital energy. Our American system of health doesn’t recognize the balancing of chakras as many European countries as well India do but its importance shouldn’t be completely overlooked for this reason. A chakra blocked in an open state means that all of one’s energies are flowing through this state while a closed chakra prevents energy to flow through this particular vortex and each one of these conditions will help to unbalance a person causing certain ailments depending on the type of situation just mentioned and to which chakra the blockage is occurring. Here are signs that can mean a chakra is unbalanced;

Ways to Unblock a Chakra

When one feels an ailment or sense of being out of balance due to an emotional or psychological imbalance usually the first methods of treatment would be to resort to basic methods of rebalancing such as yoga or meditation.  A meditation that focuses on the entire system would be prescribed. The most simple remedies would involve chanting, imagery, and focusing on the place of the imbalance. Since each chakra is aligned with a particular color, basic root sound, and lotus petal design these are the first things on which to focus your meditation.

As a Holistic Health Practitioner and Energy Healer, I would do a more complete probe if necessary. A simple questionnaire or discussion would be valuable to find out what the ailment may be and this could go a long way to determine which chakra may be out of balance and whether it’s in a closed or open state.

If the previously mentioned techniques didn’t help completely then techniques like an energy scan of the person’s body may help pinpoint the sick energy and techniques like pushing through the block by an experienced, sensitive healer may very well work although these are scientifically unproven techniques but often do work according to ayurvedic sciences. The subject in question will be the ultimate source of the answer as he will provide the canvas for the healing techniques and his well-being may or may not recover.
