Hello! If you have ever taken an international flight, you are aware that the atmosphere at the airport can significantly influence the rest of your trip. All Nippon Airways SFO Terminal delivered outstanding customer service, which pleasantly surprised and delighted me. The employees at ANA went above and beyond in every aspect from the time I entered the terminal until I boarded my flight to Tokyo. This is a personal and in-depth look at why I was so impressed by the customer care at ANA's SFO Terminal.
Warm Welcome at Check-In
ANA's check-in facilities are located in Boarding Area G of the International Terminal, which is where my adventure with the airline started. ANA's ground crew greeted me politely and with smiles, despite the fact that I came a little sooner than the suggested three hours prior to departure. Staff members were on hand to help anyone who seemed even the least bit uncertain, and the check-in area was well-marked and orderly.
I had already checked in online, but ANA still requires a quick in-person verification of documents, especially for international travel. The check-in representative was really patient and professional. She verified my ticket and passport, assisted with verifying my baggage information, and even inquired about any dietary restrictions so that the in-flight meal could be tailored to my needs.
Guidance Through Security
Although ANA is not in charge of TSA security screening at SFO, it was comforting to see them close to the door. A service member offered assistance to passengers who were not familiar with the TSA procedure and courteously directed passengers toward the appropriate lanes. The ANA staff member personally escorted a passenger who was unclear about their next destination.
This degree of consideration and care was truly remarkable. Instead of just pointing or responding quickly, ANA staff members demonstrated a sincere desire to make every traveler feel at ease and secure in a frequently chaotic setting.

The environment was serene and well-run once I passed security and arrived at the gate. A number of ANA employees were moving about the waiting area, ready to respond to inquiries and offer updates. An excellent feature for passengers from all backgrounds was that the boarding area was kept tidy and orderly, and all announcements were made in both Japanese and English.
I observed how well-structured and courteous the boarding procedure was as soon as it started. ANA employees made sure families with small children or travelers who needed more time were assisted first, and boarding groups were called clearly and patiently. Everything about it was thorough and intentional – a real reflection of the airline’s Japanese service culture.
Special Assistance with a Smile
What really struck me during my experience was how ANA’s team handled special requests. A fellow passenger in front of me was traveling with a service animal, and I watched as the ANA staff handled the situation with such kindness and professionalism. They explained procedures, offered water for the pet, and checked in multiple times with the passenger to ensure she was comfortable and reassured. It was one of those quiet, beautiful moments that really illustrates what outstanding customer service looks like in action.
Little Things That Made a Big Difference
Before boarding, an ANA team member also came around offering refresher wipes and paper boarding passes for anyone who needed a reprint. They answered every question—big or small with the same level of courtesy and patience. You could tell that each team member had been trained not just in procedures, but in making passengers feel valued and cared for.

My experience flying with All Nippon Airways from SFO made me realize how courteous, considerate, and individualized customer service should be. ANA continues to provide the same kind of courteous service that has made the airline so well-liked throughout the world, while operating in a U.S. airport with its own set of regulations and restrictions.
