How The Go St. Louis Marathon Weekend Fueled My Excitement

Have you ever wondered why people run, why people train for something they are excited about? Well, I’m going to tell you about the Go St. Louis marathon weekend and how that race got me excited about running! so, sit back, relax and try not to run away as I tell you this amazing story!

My early start to the day

have you ever anticipated something and gotten really excited about it so much so that you’ve woken up extra early? Well, that was my experience on Saturday, April 26. I think I woke up at 3:30 or 4:00 AM. I had my alarm set for 4:15 and I got up before that. I practically ran out of bed! OK, maybe I am over exaggerating. How about I flew out of bed. That sounds more natural. well, I got ready for the day, picked out some denim jeans, which later I realized that was a mistake, we will get to that soon enough. I also picked out a short-sleeved shirt to wear. my mom thought I should wear a jacket, but I told her that I thought I would be fine. Turns out, she was probably right. I ended up being cold for the start of the race, more details on this later. I thought I would have some protein for breakfast so I ate a breakfast burrito. It had eggs, sausage and bacon, and the best part was the cheese yum yum yum! OK, time to go, so I grabbed my phone and wallet, put them in my pockets and off I went. My friend’s dad who is an Uber driver drove me. We ended up getting there a little bit early so we waited around for like 10 to 15 minutes. finally, it was time to meet the Achilles crew over by the Ferris wheel at Union Station.

The start of the race
we didn’t start the race right away, we just stood around waiting. I ended up being cold so someone from the Achilles crew had a disposable blanket. at like 6:30 or so, we started walking over. Before we did that though, we took a group photo. I stood next to my guide partner, Addie Grogan. before the start of the race, Addie and I ended up having to use the restroom.

The course

The race course was pretty straightforward. Addie and I ran for one minute and walked for two minutes. I feel like we got into a pretty good rhythm after a while. The course was not easy we ended up walking uphill, but we got rewarded by running down. The 5K was 3.1 miles and at the end of the race, I got a finishers certificate. Friends from Achilles congratulated us. I finished the race 52 minutes and 47 seconds! Overall, the experience was very fascinating.
