KLM Airlines AMS Terminal mostly uses Departure Halls 1 and 2 at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. KLM's global hub, Schiphol, provides self-service kiosks, manned counters, and smartphone choices for a seamless check-in experience. The airport has effective transfer services and contemporary security with CT scanners. The Crown Lounges on KLM offer business amenities, quiet spaces, meals, and showers. Throughout the terminal, travelers can take use of a variety of dining options, duty-free stores, and family services. Additionally, the airport provides help to travelers with limited mobility and facilitates accessibility. Through its app and sustainable travel initiatives like carbon offsetting and eco-friendly operations, KLM places a strong emphasis on digital ease. Together, Schiphol and KLM make sure that every traveler has a smooth and pleasurable experience at the airport.
KLM’s signature lounges at Schiphol offer an oasis of comfort and privacy amid the hustle of international travel. There are two Crown Lounges: one for Schengen flights (Lounge 25) and one for intercontinental travel (Lounge 52). Lounge 25, located near Departure Hall 1, is ideal for travelers flying within the Schengen Zone. It offers ample seating, private workstations, complimentary snacks and drinks, shower facilities, and high-speed Wi-Fi, catering to both business and leisure travelers.
Lounge 52, the non-Schengen Crown Lounge, is a highlight of KLM’s premium ground services. Recently renovated and expanded, this lounge features multiple zones, each tailored to different traveler needs: relaxation, work, entertainment, and dining. It includes private sleep cabins, shower suites, a fully stocked buffet and bar, quiet zones, and even an outdoor terrace with views of the runway. This lounge is accessible to KLM Business Class passengers, Flying Blue Gold and Platinum members, and SkyTeam Elite Plus customers.
Dining at Schiphol is extensive and varied, reflecting the diversity of travelers who pass through its gates. Both before and after security, passengers flying with KLM can choose from international cuisine, quick snacks, and gourmet coffee options. Restaurants such as Grand Café Het Paleis and Tastes from the Lowlands offer classic Dutch meals, while global chains like Starbucks, McDonald’s, and LEON are available for fast, familiar fare. Vegetarian, vegan, and halal options are widely available. In the lounges, KLM ensures high-quality dining with freshly prepared meals and a rotating menu that reflects seasonal produce and European culinary traditions.
Retail therapy is another key feature of the KLM-Schiphol experience. Schiphol’s shopping promenade includes duty-free stores, fashion boutiques, souvenir shops, bookstores, and electronics outlets. Popular international brands like Rituals, GASSAN, and Victoria’s Secret are located throughout the terminal. Duty-free shopping is available for international travelers, and purchases can be delivered directly to your gate or plane, reducing the hassle of carrying bags.
KLM also emphasizes family services at Schiphol. Families with children benefit from priority boarding and easy-access family lanes at security. There are children’s play areas in several parts of the terminal, and family-friendly restrooms with baby-changing stations are clearly marked. For nursing mothers, dedicated lactation rooms provide privacy and comfort. Schiphol also offers stroller rentals and toy shops, making the airport visit more enjoyable for younger passengers.
Accessibility is a major focus at Schiphol, with the terminal designed to be fully inclusive for travelers with reduced mobility. Elevators, ramps, tactile floors, and accessible restrooms are placed throughout the KLM areas of the terminal. Dedicated assistance services are available for those who pre-book wheelchair support or need help navigating the terminal. Visual and auditory guidance systems are in place for visually or hearing-impaired passengers, and service dogs are welcomed and accommodated.
For business travelers, Schiphol offers additional services such as VIP meeting rooms, co-working spaces, and secure internet access points. Several hotels within walking distance or inside the terminal, including the Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and citizenM Schiphol, offer convenient lodging for long layovers or early-morning departures. KLM passengers on long-haul itineraries can also access YOTELAIR's airside microhotel rooms, available for short bookings.
KLM also integrates digital innovation throughout the travel journey. From real-time flight updates via its app to automated gates and luggage tracking, passengers can stay fully informed and in control. The airline’s digital assistant, “BlueBot,” helps travelers via chatbot with booking, rebooking, and customer service queries.
In addition to all the operational aspects, Schiphol Airport and KLM have made sustainability a strategic priority. The terminal uses energy-efficient lighting, water-saving facilities, and waste separation systems. KLM itself is investing in more sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), electric ground vehicles, and carbon offsetting programs. Passengers can contribute to sustainable flying through KLM’s “CO₂ZERO” program, allowing them to offset the emissions from their journey with a simple add-on at booking.
Looking ahead, Schiphol is undergoing a long-term expansion and modernization project aimed at improving capacity, reducing delays, and enhancing the passenger experience even further. Plans include expanded terminal space, upgraded baggage handling systems, and more automated self-service areas. KLM Airlines at AMS Terminal is closely involved in these developments to ensure the new facilities reflect its service standards and customer-focused design.
