Hello, I thought I'd share a little about our recent experience flying with Norse Atlantic Airways JFK Terminal and specifically what it was like to get through the Norse Atlantic Airways as a family. Flying with children (two under the age of 10) can be anything that happens, so having an airport experience that is slick and hospitable is a huge win in my opinion. We departed from New York's to Oslo with Norse Atlantic Airways, and the adventure began at Terminal 7. That's where Norse Atlantic Airways is based at, and it ended up being perfect for our family—not too intimidating, but still with all of the latest amenities you desire when embarking on a long-haul journey.
A Calm Start at Terminal 7
To be honest, can sometimes feel hectic, especially during peak hours. But as soon as we arrived at Terminal 7, it felt noticeably calmer than some of the other terminals (looking at you, Terminal 4!). There was an air of order that I immediately appreciated, especially with two kids in tow and a pile of carry-ons. Norse Atlantic Airways’ check-in counters were clearly marked and easy to find. The line moved at a steady pace, and we were greeted by a friendly check-in agent who was warm and efficient. She even made a point to chat with my daughter about her unicorn travel pillow, which made her beam. It’s the little touches like that that leave an impression.
Efficient Check-In with a Personal Touch
The check-in process for Norse Atlantic was surprisingly smooth. We’d booked basic economy seats, but we were still able to select our seats in advance, and thankfully, we were all seated together. The airline staff were helpful in confirming this during check-in, which helped ease my mom-brain panic about being separated mid-flight. They also gave us tips about stroller drop-off, which was great since we had our lightweight umbrella stroller with us. It might seem like a small thing, but when staff take a moment to ensure families are supported, it really does go a long way.
Security: Not a Total Nightmare
Let’s talk security. I won’t say it was the most fun part of the experience—but honestly, it could have been worse. TSA at Terminal 7 seemed well organized that day. The family lane helped a lot—we didn’t feel rushed, and the agents were patient when we had to pause and empty half our snack stash out of the backpack (oops). We also noticed that Norse seemed to coordinate with the airport staff pretty well. There was someone from the airline nearby, casually assisting confused passengers and pointing people toward their gates. It added an extra layer of calmness that you don’t always get in bigger terminals.
Terminal 7 Amenities: Compact but Comfortable
Terminal 7 isn’t flashy or ultra-modern like some of JFK’s newer terminals, but it has a clean and practical feel to it. The seating areas were spacious enough for us to spread out while waiting for our gate to open. We even found a quiet corner near a charging station—huge bonus for keeping tablets alive before boarding.
There were a few dining options around, including a pretty good grab-and-go coffee spot where my husband grabbed an espresso and the kids picked out muffins. I liked that it wasn’t chaotic—no massive food court crowd, just enough variety for a light meal or snack. Hudson News, of course, came through with magazines, puzzles, and last-minute travel must-haves.
Boarding with Norse: Friendly and Organized
Boarding for Norse Atlantic Airways was actually really well handled. They made clear announcements, and the boarding groups were spaced out in a way that didn’t cause a stampede (thank you!). The staff at the gate were cheerful and helpful. One of them even crouched down to chat with my son, who was nervous about his first overnight flight. “Don’t worry,” she said, “our pilots are the best, and the blankets are super cozy.” That kind of interaction can really change the energy for a child—and for a parent trying to keep things together.
First Impressions Onboard Norse Atlantic Airways
Okay, so technically this part isn’t in the terminal, but I’d be remiss not to mention how nice the aircraft felt. Norse Atlantic’s planes are clean and modern, with calming blue mood lighting and surprisingly comfy seats—even in economy. There was plenty of legroom for my 6’2” husband, which is usually unheard of on budget long-haul flights. Blankets, earphones, and a simple in-flight entertainment system were available. The crew kept the vibe friendly and chill, and even though food wasn’t included in our basic ticket, the options for purchase were decent and priced reasonably.
A Family-Friendly Airline at a Family-Friendly Terminal
After flying with Norse out of JFK, I can honestly say I’d do it again. The Norse Atlantic Airways experience was smooth, friendly, and far less stressful than I’d feared. When traveling with family—especially young kids—you look for calm, clarity, and support. Terminal 7 delivered just that. Of course, as a whole can be a bit intense, especially during busy travel periods. But flying out of Terminal 7 with Norse felt like a smaller, more relaxed pocket of the airport. There were no outrageous lines, no confusion about where to go, and no surprises when it came to boarding or baggage.
Final Thoughts
If you’re planning a transatlantic trip with your family and looking for an affordable option that doesn’t sacrifice quality, John F. Kennedy International Airport might be a great choice. And if you're flying out of Terminal 7, you're in good hands. The terminal itself isn’t ultra-fancy or loaded with luxury lounges, but it’s clean, organized, and—most importantly—family-friendly. From the helpful staff to the efficient check-in and security process, our experience was genuinely pleasant. It’s not often you can say that a budget airline and a major international airport gave you a relaxing start to your trip—but in this case, that’s exactly what happened. I’d recommend Norse out of to anyone looking for a no-fuss, honest-to-goodness flying experience. We’re already talking about our next trip to Europe—and yes, Norse Atlantic and Terminal 7 are definitely part of the plan.
