Leading With Experience: Patrick Austin’s Impact On Commercial Roofing In Canada And The U.S

Patrick Austin has built a reputation as a forward-thinking leader in the commercial roofing and waterproofing industry across Canada and the United States. Through his role as President and Chief Executive Officer of Austin Roofing & Waterproofing and Austin Roofing America, he has guided both organizations from regional operations to companies capable of managing complex commercial, industrial, and agricultural projects with precision and reliability.

Growing up in Windsor, Ontario, Austin developed an early appreciation for discipline and perseverance through sports. Soccer became a significant part of his life, and he competed at a high level, including with the Ontario FC Nationals. The lessons learned on the field, including teamwork, focus, and resilience, would later inform his approach to managing people, projects, and operations.

Entrepreneurship became part of Austin’s path while he was still in high school. He founded Pat’s Lawncare & Maintenance, serving residential and commercial clients throughout Windsor. The business expanded to include government properties and automotive facilities, such as tool-and-mold plants. Through this venture, he gained early exposure to managing operations, coordinating teams, and maintaining strong client relationships. The experience of scaling and eventually exiting the business provided him with critical insights into leadership, growth, and operational management.

Austin’s career with Austin Roofing & Waterproofing began in 2013 as a laborer. Immersing himself in hands-on work allowed him to understand every aspect of the company’s operations, from installation techniques to project logistics and safety protocols. By 2016, he had advanced to Vice President, contributing to workforce development and strategic planning, and in late 2024, he assumed the role of President and Chief Executive Officer.

Under Austin’s leadership, the company has taken on increasingly complex projects. In 2022, he managed the new roofing assemblies for the Parks and Recreation Facility for the Township of Plympton-Wyoming in Ontario. Later that year, he oversaw multiple roofing projects for a private equity firm, successfully coordinating teams and timelines across several locations. In 2023, he directed the complete roof restoration of the World Fuel and Sky Service facilities at Ottawa International Airport. His oversight continued in 2025 with a five-year roofing project for Canada Brick’s manufacturing plant and a heritage building restoration in Markham, Ontario. In 2026, he was selected as a preferred contractor for Green For Life Environmental, providing service and maintenance across industrial facilities throughout Ontario.

Austin Roofing & Waterproofing has grown into a multigenerational enterprise with more than forty years of operational history. The company specializes in flat roof restorations, fluid-applied waterproofing systems, and single-ply membrane installations, serving both large corporations and privately owned businesses. Austin has also focused on strategic expansion, including opportunities in Calgary, to bring the company’s expertise to new markets.

The establishment of Austin Roofing America in 2024 marked the company’s expansion into the United States. This venture applies Canadian-developed roofing and waterproofing solutions to U.S. commercial and industrial clients while maintaining rigorous standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. Austin oversees operations on both sides of the border, ensuring strategic alignment and consistent performance.

Innovation has been a central focus of Austin’s career. In 2025, he received a patent for specific construction tool technology independently valued at approximately $43.7 million U.S. dollars. He continues to develop tools and systems designed to improve efficiency, safety, and performance in the roofing industry, demonstrating a commitment to practical, technology-driven improvements that advance the field.

Currently, based in Toronto, Ontario, Austin remains actively involved in both Canadian and U.S. operations. Beyond his professional achievements, he contributes to community programs, youth sports teams, and mentorship initiatives, supporting opportunities for the next generation of tradespeople, athletes, and leaders. His philanthropic efforts reflect a commitment to giving back and fostering growth in the communities that have shaped his success.

Patrick Austin’s career demonstrates the power of combining hands-on expertise with strategic leadership. By consistently focusing on quality, innovation, and operational excellence, he has not only strengthened his companies but also helped shape the commercial roofing and waterproofing industry in Canada and the United States. His work exemplifies the impact of leadership built on experience, vision, and a dedication to supporting both people and projects.
