From her early experiences in Odesa, Ukraine, to her emergence as a leading health education innovator in the United States, Svetlana Elgart has dedicated her life to transforming how children and communities understand and embrace wellness. Born on December 10, 1967, and immigrating to America in 1978, Svetlana’s journey from a young immigrant family focused on wholesome, homemade meals to founder and CEO of Rainbow Chefs Academy (RCA) reflects her unwavering commitment to public health and nutrition.
Svetlana’s passion for health and nutrition was cultivated in her family’s kitchen, where traditional recipes met natural ingredients. After earning an Associate of Science in Business and Marketing from the University of North Texas in 1987, she shifted her focus to holistic health, completing the Nutrition Consultant program at Bauman College. This unique blend of business acumen and nutritional expertise equipped her to address systemic gaps in wellness education.
In her late 30s and early 40s, what many regard as the prime of a career, Svetlana launched several community-based programs that married education and healthy living. Kids Homework Club provided academic support alongside discussions about balanced meals and daily routines. Strings of Art, her innovative art center, integrated mindfulness practices with creativity, underscoring the mind–body connection essential to holistic health. These ventures demonstrated her ability to craft engaging, developmentally appropriate programs that fostered both intellectual growth and well-being.
Svetlana’s landmark achievement arrived in 2011 with the creation of Rainbow Chefs, a program that brought hands-on culinary instruction to health education. Recognizing that experiential learning strengthens retention, she designed each lesson to revolve around preparing simple, nutritious recipes. By blending science-based nutrition modules with cooking labs, Svetlana provided students with practical skills and the confidence to make healthy choices.
In 2020, she expanded this model into Rainbow Chefs Academy (RCA), a curriculum-based platform serving K–12 schools nationwide. As CEO, Svetlana has overseen the academy’s growth to impact over 45,000 students, equipping them with knowledge about macronutrients, food sourcing, kitchen safety, and wellness habits. RCA’s partnerships with school districts, municipal health departments, and educational consortiums have positioned it as a critical contributor to local public health initiatives, particularly those aimed at reducing childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
Under Svetlana’s leadership, RCA’s classroom programs have produced tangible results: surveys show participating students report increased fruit and vegetable consumption, greater confidence in cooking skills, and a deeper understanding of how dietary choices affect long-term health. By collaborating with city health offices and nonprofit organizations, RCA has also hosted community cooking events, parent workshops, and teacher training seminars, amplifying its reach beyond school walls.
Eager to extend her impact, Svetlana has leveraged digital media to disseminate health education widely. RCA’s YouTube channel features step-by-step recipe demonstrations and bite-sized nutrition tips, while the Rainbow Chefs Podcast invites experts to discuss food justice, mental health, and sustainable eating. In July 2024, she will release Cooking Healthy with Rainbow Chefs: Cookbook for Kids, a collection of simple, child-friendly recipes designed to reinforce RCA’s pedagogical approach at home.
As Svetlana looks ahead, she is developing Kale the Cupboard Monster, a children’s book series launching in April 2025. The series aims to demystify healthy eating through playful storytelling, addressing picky eating and fostering early acceptance of nutritious foods. Svetlana hopes to instill lifelong habits that bolster physical well-being and self-efficacy by engaging young readers emotionally and intellectually.
Svetlana Elgart’s professional odyssey illuminates the critical intersection of education, culinary arts, and public health. Through RCA and her diverse initiatives, she has redefined health education as an active, student-centered journey. Her work empowers children with practical skills and galvanizes communities to prioritize nutrition, wellness, and preventive health. As a mother, entrepreneur, and advocate, Svetlana continues to lead with vision and compassion, nurturing the next generation of healthy eaters, informed consumers, and wellness-minded citizens.
