There is some evidence that these products can help with sleep, but it's important to learn more about them, including when they're most effective, how to use them, and any potential side effects or contraindications.

Melatonin can occasionally be used more consistently for longer periods of time when guided by a qualified healthcare practitioner (of course, consult your doctor or pediatrician before beginning any supplement, including short-term melatonin use).

Why can't it be used long-term? 

For the most part, melatonin is produced by the body and does not require our assistance. However, irregular schedules, late-night device use, time changes, and other factors can disrupt melatonin levels. Melatonin supplementation can then act as a signal for the body to reset. However, long-term use relieves the body of the burden of producing melatonin, which can disrupt production. This can lead to a return of wakefulness as the effects of the melatonin supplement wear off and the body's natural production declines. That is why melatonin supplements should be used sparingly and in conjunction with addressing the underlying causes of insomnia.  

CBD Melatonin Tincture Dose and Use

It is important to note that there is no standard dosage for CBD, and individuals may react differently to different dosages. However, a typical CBD dose range for adults is 15-30 mg daily. Some conditions, such as pain or inflammation, require a higher dose, but this moderate range appears to be the most well-tolerated and effective for anxiety, sleep, and mood. 

After consulting with a doctor, look for a high-quality, broad-spectrum, natural, non-GMO hemp product that is THC-free (measures less than 0.3% THC). A review of ten trials found that melatonin supplementation improved sleep patterns in people crossing time zones, including airline passengers, airline employees, and military personnel. Daily doses ranging from 0.5 mg to 5 mg taken at bedtime were tested and found to be equally supportive; however, the effects were stronger at the higher dose. According to this review, doses greater than 5 mg do not appear to provide any additional benefits.

According to research, many of the side effects associated with CBD use are most likely caused by drug-to-drug interactions between CBD and other medications an individual may be taking. That's why it's critical to consult with your doctor before starting any supplement, particularly CBD.Here's how these interactions work: CBD is broken down by the body using the same pathway as many prescription drugs. If multiple compounds compete in this pathway (for example, CBD and a prescription drug), "altered concentration" may occur. This means that too little or too much of the drug remains in the body. When too little remains, a drug may no longer function properly.
