Great Inventors Who Made The World What It Is Today

There are lots of great people but, It may surprise you who has made the world what it is today.

A lot of great people today, and in history have made the world what it is today through their influence. This article will go into detail about these great people and what greatest accomplishments they have done throughout their lifetime that made the world what it is today.

Johannes Gutenberg

   The first person I would like to introduce is Johannes Gutenberg. Gutenberg was born in the 1400s and died on February 3, 1468, at around 68. Gutenberg was born in the German city called Mainz, the Rhine-Main area. He was the youngest son of the merchant Friele Gensfleisch Zur Laden And his second wife Else Wyrich.

He was a German goldsmith,   an inventor, publisher, and printer famous for introducing printing to Europe and his invention of the mechanical movable type printing press.  Gutenberg not being the first person to use movable type in the world, he was the first European to use one. 

The things he has influenced the world with are his many contributions to printing inventions. He created the process of mass-producing movable type printers, oil-based ink for printing books, adjustable molds, and the use of the wooden printing press. In Renaissance Europe, make books and other printed material for relatively little cost greatly contributing to the literacy and education in Europe. Gutenberg's printing press made when the mechanical movable type printer arrived allowed for mass communication which in turn permanently changed the world and society today.

William Henry Gates

  The second person that I would like to talk about is more part of modern history, William Henry Gates 3rd or also known as (Bill Gates). Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. Bill Gates is the son of William H. Gates Sr. and Mary Maxwell Gates.

He is very well known for being co-founder of Microsoft Corporation. In 1975, he co-founded Microsoft with childhood friend Paul Allen. Bill Gates had a great influence on the world by creating Microsoft. all the applications you use like Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft 365, and many other Microsoft applications have helped shape the computer industry for the better and it continues to help people in the computer industry.

George Washington Carver

  The Third-person that has made the world what it is today George Washington Carver. He was born in Diamond, Missouri on January 1, 1864, and he died on January 5, 1943, in Tuskegee, Alabama. George was born into slavery, the person then was their owner was named Moses Carver. When George was only a week old he, his sister, and his mother were kidnapped by night raiders. Moses carver found the kidnappers and negotiated their return he thankfully returned with the infant George Carver but his sister and his mother were not found.

George Washington Carver is just one of the great people that have changed the world because of his work at Tuskegee Institute a well-known historically black university in Alabama. He was known as the Agricultural Scientist to use alternative crops instead of cotton, and his method of preventing soil depletion or hundreds of different uses for peanuts like flour, paste, paper, shaving cream, and even skin lotion. 

Garrett Augustus Morgan, SR.

The Fourth person that I would like to add to the list of great people is Garret Augustus Morgan SR. Garret Morgan was born in Claysville Harrison County, Kentucky, on March 4, 1877, and died on July 27, 1963. His father was Sydney Morgan a son and freed slave of Confederate John H. Morgan of Morgans Raiders. 

He was an African American inventor, was most famous for his three-position traffic signal and the smoke hood. The common traffic light that we constantly see in the streets today are there because of Garret. The smoke hood was the first type of gas mask to be invented at the time it was known as a smoke hood, it was usually used for tunnel construction disaster rescue.

Elisabeth Magie

The Fifth and last great person I would like to talk about is Elisabeth Magie. Elizabeth was born in Macomb, Illinois, on May 9, 1866, and Died on March 2, 1948, in Arlington, Virginia at 81 years old. She was married in 1910, at 44 years old, to a man named Albert Wallace Phillips.

Magie an American game designer, writer, and feminist, also worked as a short story or poetry writer.  She was even a stenographer and typist at the Dead Letter Office in the 1800s. Elizabeth was most famous for her invention of the board game "Monopoly" and " The Landlords Game". 

Elizabeth was an outspoken activist for the feminist movement and Georgism, her father James K. Magie's political beliefs were a direct reflection on Georgism. She also thought men were equally as capable as men in inventing so, she decided to bring the struggles of women in the U.S to the public's attention. She did this by purchasing an advertisement and tried to auction herself off as a "young woman American slave" looking for her husband to own her. News spread quickly and was heard throughout the country. Elizabeth quickly became a famous outspoken feminist activist and a great person that made the world what it is today.
