The popular Spanish Netflix series Money Heist (original title: La Casa de Papel) is coming back with a bang. The popular heist show, known for its complex narrative structure, including unreliable narrators, flashbacks, and subverted tropes, is getting ready to release its new season.
Money Heist Season 5 will be released on Netflix in two volumes. The first part will come in September 2021 and the second in December of the same year.
Since its premiere in 2017, the Spanish series has had a rabid fan following as well as critical acclaim. The eclectic crime drama holds the honor of being the most-watched non-English title on Netflix, with Season 4 topping out at almost 70 million views.
The fifth and final season of Money Heist is set to drop in two parts. The first part will come in the autumn, with a September 2021 release date. The second and final installment will air in the winter with a December 2021 release date. You can see the teaser trailer for the exciting series below.
Netflix has been kind enough to gift us a trailer for the new season of Money Heist. Though the show is originally in Spanish, the trailer can be viewed in either Spanish or English dubs. Enjoy the trailer for Money Heist Season 5 below.

There is no trailer available for the second part of Season 5, likely because it would give away the plot points of the first installment. Rest assured that Netflix will release it sometime in the winter after the first set of episodes drops.
Although all previous seasons of Money Heist have stuck to an 8-episode rollout, the final season will be different. This is exciting news for fans who can hope to watch the series end on a high note.
FormulaTV reports that the final season of Money Heist will feature 10 episodes total. Since it is split into two parts, there will probably be 5 episodes in each installment.
One of the most exciting additions to the cast of Money Heist is Miguel Ángel Silvestre. Known for his performance as Frank Jurado on the hit Netflix series Narcos, fans can be excited to see what the writers of Money Heist have cooked up for him.
Series creator Álex Pina spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what he has in store for Silvestre's character: "We always try that our opponents be charismatic, intelligent, shiny. In this case, in the pure war film genre, we also look for characters whose intelligence can measure up against The Professor's."
In addition to this look inside the new season, Pina also revealed some insight into the final season of Money Heist via his Twitter account: "We've spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season."
However, Silvestre isn't the only new addition to the cast. Spanish actor Patrick Criado will join him as one of the main antagonists of the series. These actors will bring some new flavor into the exciting world of Money Heist.
At the end of Money Heist Season 4, The Professor (played by Alvaro Morte) was in deep trouble. Alicia Sierra, the pregnant inspector played by Najwa Nimri, is hot on his tail and in the final shot of the latest episode, Alicia points a gun at The Professor as it cuts to the credits. The iconic song "Bella Ciao", a rendition of an old Italian anti-fascist song, rings out as the episode ends.
Meanwhile, in the Bank of Spain, the team is putting their plan into effect. They are trying to find an escape route, but with the authorities calling in the military, this will understandably be a hard task. Season 4 also showed us that the gang in the basement is deploying a creative tactic to get the gold out. They are melting the gold down into small balls, which will be easier to carry.
"We are moving from a chess game – a mere intellectual strategy – to a war strategy: attack and contention," Álex Pina said. The death of their friend and comrade, Nairobi (played by Alba Flores) was a major hitch in the gang's plan.
The final season will be more about revenge than anything else as the crew tries to survive the fallout from the audacious heist. According to Pina, this new battle faced by the team is "the most epic part of all the parts we've shot."
The series creator also clued into the fact that we will become more intimately acquainted with Denver's friend from childhood, Manila, who is played by Belén Cuesta. The show has always had such a vicious and heart-racing energy about it. Pina assures fans of the series that this final season will be no exception.
"Adrenaline is within Money Heist’s DNA. Every thirty seconds things take place and disrupt the characters, a turn of the screw to the action. The adrenaline mixed with feelings arising from absolutely complex, magnetic, unforeseeable characters will continue until the end of the heist to the Bank of Spain," Pina declares.
The Professor being caught at gunpoint might be the best cliffhanger yet.
Five episodes won't be enough to satisfy my Money Heist craving in September.
Looking forward to seeing how they handle the military involvement. That's new territory for the show.
After everything they've been through, I just want a happy ending for the team.
The way they balance action with character moments is what makes this show special.
I'm preparing myself emotionally for whatever twists they throw at us.
Anyone else think the gold melting plan is a misdirection? Seems too obvious.
The character development over the seasons has been incredible to watch.
Each season has gotten bigger in scope. I can't imagine how they'll top themselves.
I've rewatched all seasons twice preparing for this. The attention to detail is amazing.
Still can't believe this started as a limited series on Spanish TV. What a journey!
The pressure must be immense to deliver a satisfying ending with such a huge fanbase.
Wonder if they'll ever reveal the real names of all the characters before it ends.
Loving how they're using Bella Ciao throughout the series. Its history adds so much meaning.
I'm betting the second volume will focus more on escape than the actual heist.
My theory is that Alicia will go into labor while holding The Professor at gunpoint.
Watching this show has definitely improved my Spanish! Anyone else picking up phrases?
The switch from chess game to war strategy sounds intense. I'm here for it!
I just want everyone to make it out alive, but that's probably too much to ask for this show.
Pina saying this will be the most epic season has me both excited and terrified.
The fact that they spent a year planning how to break up the band makes me nervous for my favorite characters.
I have a feeling this season will make the previous heists look like practice runs.
Can we talk about how perfect the casting of Patrick Criado looks? He just fits the show's vibe perfectly.
The Professor being on the ropes might actually be the most interesting part of the new season.
Wonder if we'll get any more flashbacks with Berlin. Those are always my favorite parts.
After four seasons of incredible twists, I trust these writers to give us a satisfying ending.
Something tells me the gold melting plan isn't going to go as smoothly as they hope.
The military versus the gang sounds epic, but I'm more interested in the emotional fallout from recent events.
You've got a point about the wait between volumes. I hadn't thought about that cliffhanger potential!
Not sure how I feel about waiting three months between volumes. What if they leave us on another massive cliffhanger?
The adrenaline rush this show gives me is unreal. No other series comes close.
I'm actually glad they're bringing in new antagonists. The Professor needs worthy opponents to really shine.
Ten episodes instead of eight is great news. They'll need the extra time to wrap everything up properly.
Finally we'll get to know more about Manila! I've been curious about Denver's childhood friend since she was introduced.
The war strategy angle Pina mentioned has me worried they might kill off more main characters
Looking at those viewing numbers, almost 70 million for Season 4? That's insane!
I just hope they give Tokyo less narration this season. Sometimes it feels like overkill.
The fact that this is already Netflix's most-watched non-English show is incredible. Really shows how good storytelling transcends language barriers.
Does anyone else think Alicia might end up joining the team? Her character is too interesting to just be an antagonist
Honestly not sure how I feel about them adding new characters this late in the game. We already have so many to keep track of.
I think the military involvement will make this season much more intense than previous ones
The gold melting strategy seems risky to me. What if something goes wrong with the equipment?
Really interested to see how they'll handle Nairobi's death in the new season. It's bound to impact everyone's motivations.
That last scene of season 4 with Bella Ciao playing gave me chills. This show knows how to do endings!
I actually disagree with splitting the season. It feels like they're just trying to drag it out unnecessarily.
The casting of Miguel Ángel Silvestre is brilliant. I loved him in Narcos and can't wait to see him go head to head with The Professor
Anyone else worried about The Professor after that cliffhanger with Alicia? I can't imagine how he'll get out of this one
I'm so excited for the split release format! Having 5 episodes in September and 5 in December will give us time to really process everything that happens.
