10 Games Coming Out In 2022 To Look Out For

A new lineup of games has been announced for 2022 but what are the titles you should be keeping an eye on?

Countless games are released every year but only so many are exciting enough that you just can’t wait to play them and with a new lineup of games being announced for 2022 there are several gems that really stand out. These are some of the games that have some real promise or that we can expect to bring about a fresh change to the way we play.

Below are the ten games set for release in 2022 that you should look out for.

1. The Callisto Protocol

The minds behind Dead Space and Call of Duty have come together to create a brand new futuristic single-player survival horror game. The Callisto Protocol will be having our attempt to escape from a maximum-security prison located on Callisto, one of Jupiter’s moons, in which you must try to evade the prison’s defenses and avoid horrific alien monsters while uncovering terrible secrets along the way.

Striking Distance plan to make The Callisto Protocol the scariest game for PC and next-gen consoles in an attempt to live up to the Dead Space experience by making the most of the hardware available to them with the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X. So if you’re looking for a game that will have an immersive and action-filled horror experience with a hint of mystery you should keep one eye open in anticipation of The Callisto Protocol.

2. Hogwarts Legacy

Warner Bros. studio Avalanche Software is creating a brand new open-world RPG set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. In Hogwarts Legacy, you will be able to live out your dreams of being a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in which you will learn magic under the guidance of powerful wizards, explore not just Hogwarts but also the wider Wizarding World around it, and even join your favorite house.

Set in the late 1800s you will be playing as a young witch or wizard that has received a late acceptance into the famous Hogwarts and it seems that your character will have the power to use ‘Ancient Magic’. You will find yourself exploring Hogwarts, mastering magic, fighting monsters, thwarting evil, or joining it in an epic adventure. Hogwarts Legacy will be available on PC, current-gen, and next-gen consoles.

3. Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The newest game in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces new ways to experience the Pokémon world. This open-world RPG was set in the Sinnoh region in the distant past, a long time before the events of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl. Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces a new way to capture Pokémon by allowing you to study their behavior and sneak up on them before making your catch, but don’t worry there will still be plenty of Pokémon battles for you to enjoy with each Pokémon having its own unique way of being captured.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus you will be undertaking the role of completing the first Pokédex for the Sinnoh region accompanied by one of three starting Pokémon: Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott. In this open-world environment, you will be able to spot wild Pokémon from afar before choosing to catch or fight it rather than running around in long grass for hours trying to find the Pokémon you want.

4. Gotham Knights

A new Warner Bros. game set in Gotham after the death of Batman in which Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood must come together to fight the rapid increase in crime. You will be navigating the streets of Gotham and taking down criminals while you discover an insidious plot begins to unfold.

In Gotham Knights, you will be able to play by yourself switching between characters and using their unique playstyles to overcome various foes or alongside a co-op partner which you can tackle the dangers of Gotham together. You will be finding yourself coming head-to-head with some of Gotham’s most infamous villains including Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owls.

5. Sea of Stars

An innovative turn-based game inspired by classic JRPGs and developed by the indie Sabotage Studio, Sea of Stars will feature many aspects familiar to long time JRPG fans while also giving a breath of new life into the genre with “timed hits” to make combat more engaging and you won’t need to worry about grinding for levels in order to progress through the game’s main story.

Available on Consoles and on Steam for PC you will be able to play through this reimagining of the classic JRPG genre in which you will find yourself able to move freely throughout the map without much issue as you will be able to swim, climb, and jump past obstacles in a platformer-esque fashion. Combat will flow seamlessly with no transitions or random encounters allowing you to switch between navigation and combat without breaking immersion.

6. Forspoken

Square Enix’s newest project, Forspoken, is an action-packed open-world RPG following Frey Holland in her journey through an unknown and fantastical world. You will be trying to survive in a harsh fantasy landscape as Frey comes to understand how to use her magical abilities and overcome terrible foes and arduous obstacles.

Forspoken will be an exclusive experience for the PC and PlayStation 5, making use of the next-gen console’s new hardware and features. Takeshi Aramaki, the studio head and general manager of Luminous Productions has announced that Forspoken will be using AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution in an attempt to achieve “the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open-world game”.

7. Starfield

From the creators of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, Bethesda Studios has revealed a new game using their Creation Engine 2 called Starfield. In this new open-universe RPG you will be able to explore distant and alien worlds and traverse the great expanse of space as you search for the answer to humanity’s great mysteries.

Starfield has been likened to being “Skyrim in Space” or Star Wars by the Bethesda team as you will be able to freely explore the setting and customize your own character. Starfield will be available on the 11th of November in 2022 for play on the PC and Xbox Series X|S.

8. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

The highly anticipated sequel to the well-received open-world RPG The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has finally been announced for the Nintendo Switch. In this sequel, you will be traversing through Hyrule once more to face off against dangers both old and new while using new powers to help you traverse the lands and solve puzzles.

Many fans are excited for this sequel, hoping that we will get the chance to play Zelda in a Legend of Zelda game for the first time, regardless of if we do or not it seems like the princess of Hyrule will have a larger role than before in this game.

9. Elden Ring

A dark fantasy open-field RPG created by FromSoftware with the assistance of fantasy writer George R.R. Martin, Elden Ring is a game of epic proportions acting as the spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series of games. Elden Ring will be set in the Lands Between in which you must gather the shards of the titular Elden Ring.

Elden Ring will be making use of many familiar mechanics from Dark Souls ranging from its challenging combat, a wide variety of weapons and magic to choose from, environmental storytelling, and summonable allies. You will also be able to use the games day/night cycle and varied environments to sneak past enemies or ride into battle atop your spirit horse into battle.

10. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

This spinoff from Gearbox’s Borderlands series takes a hard turn into the realm of fantasy in contrast to the sci-fi tone of the main series, cranking the guns and mayhem to eleven by throwing in some good old dragons and sorcery. You will be traversing through the world of “Bunkers and Badasses” guided by Tiny Tina as you quest to battle the Dragon Lord.

In this fantastical shoot, 'em up you will be able to create and customize your own character with the ability to multi-class your hero, allowing you to enjoy your Borderlands experience with a new way to play.
