The first time I got the chance to read Jhumpa Lahiri's writing, I was in an Introduction to Literary Studies class at college, and I had no real knowledge of how to appreciate her writing. But I picked up The Namesake two years later and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it via Libby, the Boston Public Library app. I also got a chance to read the paperback version of the book - something I rarely do when I pick up a book nowadays. I found myself drawn to The Namesake because I myself am an Indian immigrant, and the story made me wonder if by reading it I would feel more of a connection to my culture.
