The coronavirus has proven to be a deadly and serious illness. Many of us have lost family members, close friends, and colleagues due to Covid-19.

For this reason, we need to understand what the coronavirus is and take the proper steps to keep ourselves and others safe. The more you inform yourself about the virus, the safer you will be. 

Here are several ways to protect yourself and keep others safe from the coronavirus: 

1. Wash Your Hands Often 

Washing your hands often is a quick and easy way to limit the spread of germs. Therefore, washing your hands frequently can minimize the spread of Covid-19, and protect yourself from contracting the virus. 

According to the CDC, you must wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. You can also use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. It is also important to avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose with unwashed hands. 

If you want to help others, you should inform them of the importance of washing their hands due to Covid-19. To add on, researching the proper way to wash your hands can be beneficial during this time.

2. Wear A Face Mask 

Wearing a mask can protect yourself and others from contracting the virus.

Besides, you cannot tell from looking at someone whether or not they have the illness. That's why it is important to wear a mask to slow the spread and keep others safe.

The CDC reveals when wearing your mask, it is important that the mask is covering your nose, mouth, and chin. Wearing a face mask can limit exposure to respiratory droplets from an infected person.

Therefore, it is important to find a mask that will suit your needs. 

Wearing your mask in public areas such as restaurants, malls, grocery stores, and the workplace can prevent the spread and protect you. Masks are also required when using public transportation such as buses, planes, and trains, or any form of public transportation.

3. Clean and Disinfect Surfaces 

Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched areas and objects is a good way to protect yourself and others from contracting the virus.

4. Stand 6 Feet Apart 

Standing 6 feet apart is important to protect yourself from contracting the coronavirus.

Keeping your distance can avoid close contact with those who may be infected with the illness. Since Covid-19 is known to be transmitted through respiratory droplets, it is important to wear your mask while standing six feet away from the other person. 

To add on, whether you are indoors or outdoors, it is best to avoid crowded areas. The more people you come into contact with, the more likely you will be exposed to the coronavirus.

5. Get Vaccinated 

Schedule an appointment to find locations where they're providing Covid-19 vaccinations near you. Getting the authorized Covid-19 vaccinations can protect others around you and may prevent you from getting seriously ill from the virus. 

Even after getting yourself vaccinated, it is important to still follow the CDC guidelines. Including washing your hands frequently, wearing a mask, and standing six feet apart from others.

6. Self-Quarantine 

If you are not sick but are having concerns that you may have had exposure to the virus, it is important to self-quarantine. Quarantine means keeping someone who might have been exposed to the virus away from others.

However, if you are feeling sick and are aware that you have Covid-19, you must self-isolate. Doing this can stop you from spreading the virus to those that aren't sick.

It is also important to monitor your symptoms to see whether or not they have progressed. If so, you should contact your health care provider immediately.
